Meaning something marked by a senseless, disorienting, often menacing complexity. I feel a Jag V12 is a very fitting picture for this :) probably why so many people replace them with bog-simple Chevy 350s

Fixed. (Maybe.)

So true. Building and working on DOHC engines makes one appreciate pushrods.

The Jag V12 was SOHC,
.....but your point isn't any less true.

Yeah, It's funny... I like SOHC stuff just a bit better for street cars because of the packaging and you get most of the benefits at lesser cost with finger followers etc. I've build some shim under bucket stuff and it can be a pain in the butt if the valve seats weren't machined to equal depth. Then there is setting the valve timing is always a treat.

Sweet :) have you seen this? 4-cam prototype of the Jag V12. I know there's a video floating around of someone who converted AJ6 cylinder heads to fit the V12, and put the resulting monster into a hot-rod.
